Girl Falls Asleep 30 Times a Day after Flu Shot

What was supposed to be a simple vaccination against the swine flu has turned into a nightmare for a 15-year-old girl living in the UK.  Just four months after receiving the shot, Chloe Glasson developed narcolepsy. Now, her family says she falls asleep without warning up to 30 times a day.

Chloe is one of at least 100 people to develop narcolepsy after receiving the Pandemrix swine flu shot — GlaxoSmithKline’s vaccine against the H1N1 virus.  Unfortunately, the disorder has greatly disturbed Chloe’s life.  She often falls asleep at school, and recently, she got lost for nearly two hours after going into a “dreamlike autopilot” state while walking to her grandmother’s house.  Vaccinated in 2009 at the height of the swine flu pandemic, Chloe is now hoping a pioneering treatment will help her to establish a more normal sleeping pattern.  The treatment, however, comes with a price tag of $23,000 a year.

Damages Payments

The UK Government revealed last September that it would pay damages to some of those who developed problems after being given the Pandemrix vaccine before August 31, 2010.
