Altom Maglio, Attorney

Altom M. Maglio, Esq.
altom-maglio

Altom (“Al” and “Tom” combined – the names of his grandfathers) represents individuals injured by medical products across the United States.

After several years of defending physicians and their insurers against medical malpractice lawsuits, Altom founded  Maglio Christopher & Toale, P.A. in 1999 to represent people and not insurance companies. Today he serves as the managing director of the Firm. The Firm actively represents clients from California to Maine, from Texas to Michigan, and from Alaska to Puerto Rico, and in all states and territories in-between.

The Firm’s practice includes representing hundreds of patients injured by adverse reactions to vaccinations.  While representing a physician in a medical malpractice case, Altom became involved in litigation involving the National Injury Vaccine Compensation Program.  Prior to that time, like most attorneys, he was completely unfamiliar with a compensation system for patients injured by vaccine reactions.  He recognized the incredible potential of the National Vaccine Injury Compensation Program and has worked for over a decade to improve the compensation system for patients injured by vaccines in the United States.  At the present time the Firm has a team of attorneys and paralegals dedicated to representing patients injured by vaccine adverse reactions.  Altom takes great pride in the assistance that the Firm has been able to provide to individuals and their families injured by adverse reactions to vaccinations.

Over a decade ago, Altom also started the medical product litigation practice of the Firm.  During that time the Firm has focused predominately on representing patients with defective hip and knee joint replacements, becoming one of the leading Firms in the country in prosecuting defective joint replacement cases.  Altom has litigated hip and knee replacement product defect cases against manufacturers based both in the United States and internationally.  Over the years, he has obtained compensation for patients injured by defective plastic used in knee and hip replacements, defective ceramic heads used in hip replacements, defective modular necks used in hip replacements, and defective metal on metal hip replacements, among others.  In 2008, on behalf of an injured patient, Altom filed the first metal on metal hip replacement lawsuit in the United States involving the current generation of metal on metal hip replacements.  At the present time Altom and other attorneys of the Firm represent hundreds of patients across the United States with failed defective metal on metal hip replacement in litigation against the manufacturers of those implants.

altom-maglio-metal-on-metal-trial-lawyer-conferenceAltom Maglio was one of a select few attorneys asked to speak at an annual meeting of national trial lawyers.  His topic that day: Litigation of defective metal on metal orthopedic hip joint failures.  Altom pointed out that an unusual number of patients with these defective hip joints were experiencing excruciating pain, long term damage to their joints, and a complete failure of the device. Altom spoke to the group of trial lawyers on how to successfully litigate these complex cases.
